The Challenge

The city is responding to changing patterns in sport and recreation: Mülheim’s Sport Service notes that in recent years, outdoor training activities have grown in popularity compared with traditional club‑based sport. They are explicitly working to create free, accessible outdoor sports spaces as part of the city’s sport development planning so that self‑organized, outdoor exercise can be supported and integrated into everyday life.

With the new outdoor gym installation, the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr set out to provide accessible, low-threshold exercise opportunities for all residents, regardless of age or fitness level. Designed to encourage active lifestyles and foster community engagement, the outdoor gym complements the city’s existing sports infrastructure, offering an inclusive space where people can train, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors safely and comfortably.

The Solution

Omnigym provided a set of multifunctional, user-friendly equipment that were centrally located and seamlessly integrated into the city’s existing sports infrastructure. Designed to be intuitive and inclusive, the equipment encourages both individual and group workouts while connecting with local schools and sports clubs. 

Wenderfeld outdoor gym is a compact training area in Germany, created through a close collaboration between Omnigym reseller Kübler Sport and the Mülheim an der Ruhr municipality. The result is a community-friendly outdoor gym that has become a long-term asset for both the municipality and local residents.
